Introduction
In the year 2013, both Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. (“BL”) and Visakhapatnam Port Trust (“VPT”) agreed to develop a Multi Modal Logistics Hub (‘MMLH’) in Visakhapatnam on the idle space at VPT area, measuring around 53 acres.
Upon receiving due approvals from the respective Administrative Ministries of the joint venture partners, namely, BL and VPT, the Company was incorporated on 24th July 2014 under the Companies Act 2013. It was incorporated in the name of “Vizag Logistics Park Ltd.”, which later got changed to Visakhapatnam Port Logistics Park Ltd.” with effect from 11th March 2015.
BL infused 60% equity contribution in cash, whereas VPT’s 40% contribution was in the form of providing 53 acres of land on a long term lease for 30 years. The Company is a Government Company under Section 2(46) of the Companies Act, 2013.
The construction of MMLH started in March 2015 and was completed by March 2019.
MMLH is developed to provide a modern and varied logistics services, such as warehousing, including temperature controlled, acting as container freight station, inland container depot with value added services, like storage of empty containers, repairing of containers, and similar other activities.
